If you keep up with me on Facebook or Instagram, you may have noticed in the past few months that a change has occurred with my posts. A new addition has popped in and it has a hold on my heart (no, the baby has not been born yet…SOON!). What’s the new addition??? Young Living Essential Oils…
Some of you may remember that I used doTerra EOs for a while, but over the course of the past year or so I have been in the process of re-investigating things until I finally made the decision to make the switch.
I am so very glad that I did.
Why I Switched to Young Living (and I’m LOVING it!)
First thing’s first, this is in NO WAY a post to hate on doTERRA or anyone who uses their oils. It is a good company with good people.
This post is simply why I decided to make the switch, my reasons, and the things that mattered the most to me.
We are all fully entitled to our own decisions, perceptions, and points of value and significance, so some of the things that are essential to me may not be significant to someone else, and vice versa. So, please do not begin a YL vs. doTerra war on here, in the comments, or anywhere…ever. That’s just silly and childish, and we are bigger than that. M’kay?!
Back to business…
So, in the beginning of my oil journey, a good friend of mine began teaching me about essential oils, which was totally right up my alley since I had already been using alternative health options for years with the family for every acute illness in the household, gotten my BS in Health and Wellness, and begun treating our son’s auto-immune condition with homeopathy, nutrition, and supplements. I was highly intrigued.
My friend had done a bunch of research and she recommended doTerra, finding that she felt they were the most solid from all the information that was available. I trusted her judgment and joined right along with her.
At the time, the information available on the internet was sketchy and minimal, websites were far less user-friendly and precise as they are now, and you really, REALLY had to dig to find good information. There was not very much for me to go on or find. Plenty of gossip, but nothing substantive to help me find middle ground.
I used the oils intermittently for the next few years, still preferring to work with what I knew (homeopathy and nutritional supplementation) for most acute illnesses, but I did have some pretty neat experiences with oils that made me definitely value them.
Fast forward to about a year or so ago. Another friend of mine contacted me to tell me about Young Living oils and connected me with her friend who had spent 8 months researching and actually use-comparing the different company’s oils. She had a lot of valuable information to share about her experiences between the two companies, and that gave me some food for thought.
Over the course of this last year I basically Facebook stalked her and watched what she shared about oils, which was a lot. I did my own research and found lots of things that got me thinking, and then finally I made the jump (even holding out the potential for doing the business side if I truly was impressed…I was 🙂 )
Why Young Living Got My Attention
When I started doing my research about Young Living’s farming practices I was BLOWN AWAY! Their Seed-to-Seal guarantee is their awesome 5 step oversight process to ensure the highest quality for oil production all the way from the most minute point of seed selection throughout the processing of the plants to make essential oils in their bottles. It’s fantastic!
BEYOND Organic Standards for Growing Practices
As a garden lover, I have been reading and studying organic standards, permaculture, sustainable harvesting practices, etc. for several years. I LOVE the growing cycle of plants and especially when growers are protective over the environment to not push land too hard just for a crop. This is what captivated me about Young Living’s standards!
Part of their Seed-to-Seal guarantee covers their harvesting and cultivation practices, which include using essential oils for natural pest control, and reusing spent plant waste (that’s previously been distilled) for composting back into the fields! How awesome is that?!
Highly Impressive Standards of Integrity
There are several areas that really struck me about the Young Living’s integrity standards. The first is that the company has an A+ rating with the BBB (YES!!) and is a member of the Direct Selling Association (DSA). This tells me they are not afraid to be held accountable as a company and be held to standards of excellence.
In addition, and this was a big one for me, when an oil runs out of stock the company does not simply turn to a third party supplier to fill the stock back up, but rather waits until the crop cycle completes naturally. They don’t rush production just to make a buck, and they don’t compromise on their standards of quality. That’s AMAZING to me. My kind of business!
Great TEAM Support
Something that was important to me was being able to connect with a team of dedicated oil users who I could go to for help, suggestions, support, etc. as I used my oils. I had never gotten plugged into anything online before for this previously, so when I was connected with the team support available on Facebook I was THRILLED! I’ve LOVED finding such a great group of women who are encouraging, supportive, funny, and engaging, all while we work to keep our families healthy and thriving.
Willing to Dive into the Science of Oils
One thing that I had come to understand while in my undergrad was a specific modality of health and wellness called “Energy Therapy.” Now, this is something that tends to make Christians squeamish because the ideas can be so tied up and twisted with voodoo non-sense and New Age-ism, but what I’ve come to understand is that most of these words are simply just that, words, to describe elements of measurable science and energy that we cannot really yet understand, but are beginning to.
Essential oils are categorized into the “energy therapy” side of the house, right alongside homeopathy, which I’ve had years of experience using, so I was thrilled to come to find that there is plenty of excellent information readily available to help me to understand this fascinating side of God’s creation! And, I can’t wait to share what I learn as I learn it! My husband is a physics “nerd” (love you honey!) so this totally whets our palates on the quantum physics side of the house, which is where energy and frequencies are best understood. (Yes, I’m unleashing my inner nerd! :::insert ridiculously annoying Nerd laugh here:::)
Fantastic Income Potential
I learned really quickly after joining up that no one works this business alone. The value of the team support is epic, and what benefits one person benefits others, so it is always more important to work together and help each other to grow than to simply stay in your own lane. What this means to me is that I am building my business WITH other people helping me, because my growth helps their growth! It’s a HUGE blessing, because it means it is not all on my shoulders. I made over $100 my first month in, which is crazy, and the check has continued to grow and blossom.
The company weaves seamlessly into the areas of passion that I have had for years, which is exciting for me since I am the kind of person that needs EVERYTHING to align with my Spirit or else I cannot be fully sold. Yeah, I’m sold!
Aligned with Where the Lord was Leading Me and My Faith Principles
The final piece for me was that Young Living and all the components that made up the company as I was coming to know it personally was that it was in alignment with my faith and the principles I value. Honoring God’s creation is important to me. Not in a “save the whales, but don’t worry about the unborn babies” kind of environmentalism that over-focuses on the land but not the people way, but just simply in a “we are here to manage the earth and take care of it for Him” kind of way. I see Young Living fulfilling this principle in their actions.
Integrity is important to me. Support for each other is important to me. Love for others is important to me. Turning away from judgment and condemning mentalities are important to me. Choosing to embrace and value God’s Ways above all else are important to me. The list goes on.
I felt the Lord’s peace as I prayed about whether or not to get started with Young Living. My hesitation came not from Him, but from the fears planted by others from their own fears, judgments, or issues.
I have loved every minute of teaming up with Young Living and finding the amazing support, information, education potential, and so much more. I am excited about continuing on this journey and all that it will bring to our family. Get ready! We’re in this together! =0)
The MOST comprehensive and thoroughly researched comparison post between YL and dT that I have seen! Enjoy!
