Ok, ladies, I just had to write this post immediately because I am so thrilled and beyond ecstatic to see this turning trend.
#HowToDad Gains New Respect for Men
For years I have been disturbed and bothered by the seemingly never-ending onslaught of emasculating commercials against the wisdom and connection that men have within the family. I remember a commercial from years ago for a hardware store that showed a man being rebuked arrogantly by his wife about his seeming stupidity regarding sales and making wise purchases. I have since been completely turned off to any commercial with a similar regard for men.
The same has been true of cultural television shows, which I honestly can’t even begin to stomach, so we is one of the reasons why we got rid of cable.
But, today I saw a turn of the tides, a sign of hope in the face of constant negativity and cultural reinforcement…a commercial by a name brand product that promotes fatherhood in all its wonderful glory, and men in all their awesome maleness! I. LOVED. THIS. COMMERCIAL.
If you haven’t seen it yet, you are in for a treat. These are totally the kinds of things I picture my own husband saying and doing. I love the completely empowered nature of this obviously confident and sure-of-himself man shown walking through the footsteps of fatherhood, embracing all that it presents.
My favorite line in the whole thing?
“When a rule is broken, we’re the enforcement. But, when a heart gets broken, we’re the reinforcement.”
Go CHEERIOS!!! Way to promote men and fatherhood in all it’s amazing glory! YOU ROCK!
